THE ‘LOTUS FLOWER’ ROLE ($52,500+)

160 kilometers north of Rio de Janeiro … in the city of Juiz de Fora, you will find a maximum-security prison called – Arisvaldo de Campos Pires.

In 2009 … Raquel Guimaraes (a fashion designer) was having difficulty finding people to crochet and knit her hand-made designs.

She approached the prison’s officials with an interesting proposal; to be allowed to train 18 prisoners (convicted of crimes including robbery and murder) how to crochet and knit for her clothing line.

The program, named the “Lotus Flower” allows prisoners to earn a wage and master a new skill.

And, not only do prisoners earn 75% of the minimum wage … but they also have one day deducted from their sentence … for every three days worked!

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing, really.

That said, speaking of Brazil … Match and Fable’s Mark Vandyke is looking for a Restaurant Manager for a wonderful Brazilian Steakhouse, in the Vaughan area.

POSITION:             RESTAURANT MANAGER

SUMMARY:

Our client is expanding and looking for a leader for their second location in the Vaughan area. They’ve created a unique dining concept that continues to thrive and provide exceptional guest experiences.  They’re looking for a Manager to continue the high standards they’ve established.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Handling the day-to-day management of the restaurant
Providing leadership working side by side with crewmembers
Deliver high standards of food quality + dining experience leading to great customer service
Managing staffing and scheduling needs
Some inventory responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS:

2 years’ experience in the restaurant industry in a leadership role.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Capable of working flexible hours, days, shifts, including some holidays
Own transportation

REMUNERATION:

SALARY: $45,000
GRATUITIES: $7,500

THE ‘SHEEP FEET’ ROLE (OTE: $63,250)

As the story goes, the world’s first restaurant opened in Paris, in 1765.
Mr. Boulanger … (a soup salesman, turned tavern keeper) opened its doors with a single-item on the menu – sheep’s feet simmered in white sauce!

Unlike other food-type businesses operating at the time, such as taverns (alcohol) and cafes (coffee) … his business focused on food. Naturally, the idea of ‘going out to eat’ was a foreign notion – as people had always eaten meals at home.

Here’s the real interesting part; Boulanger claimed his special dish would restore people’s health.
And … it just so happens, the French word for restore is, restaurer.
You can thank us later … but, now you know how the word ‘restaurant’ came to be!

By the way … a local food union sued Boulanger for infringing on their right to sell cooked food. The union ended up losing their case … and the years that followed saw restaurants pop up … all across the country.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Not much, really.

That said, just yesterday … one of our favourite clients called Mark Vandyke to explain they’re in massive growth mode.  They need 5 (… yup, we just said, five) Restaurant Managers for their rapidly expanding operations.

  • 3+ years’ experience in the hospitality or retail environment
  • Experience with P&L analysis
  • Ability to clear a background check
  • Capable of working flexible hours, days, shifts … including some holidays
  • Own reliable transportation


REMUNERATION

SALARY: $55,000
BONUS: $8,250 (paid quarterly)
ON-TARGET EARNINGS: $63,250
