The saying “getting down to brass tacks” has a number of suggested origins – (some more popular than others).

These include; the brass tacks found on fine furniture … Cockney rhyming slang for the term “hard facts” … and the brass tacks that were hammered into a sales counter – to mark precise measuring points.

A less known theory involves the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
Following Lincoln’s death … the undertaker, R.F. Harvey and his employees were asked to design the President’s coffin – using silver tacks as decoration.

In the mid-1800’s it was becoming increasingly popular to decorate coffins – and people would often spell out the deceased’s initials on the casket. Generally, brass tacks were used, rather than silver ones … as it was a far more economical option.

In this case, the term “getting down to brass tacks” referred to getting down to very serious business – the business of death!

POSITION:        SALES EXECUTIVE
REPORTS TO:   REGIONAL SALES MANAGER
TERRITORY:     BARRIE / NEWMARKET

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for building a client base through regular, territory sales calls
  • Prospect a geographic territory, targeting potential clients to initiate long-term partnerships
  • This role is 90% hunting and 10% farming
  • Provide consultative sales approach – creating value for both the client and the organization
  • Manage territory performance targets, while maintaining client satisfaction and overall results
  • Identify and prioritize high potential sales opportunities

REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST HAVE: Post-secondary education
  • MUST HAVE: The desire to learn from the best and put in the effort to succeed
  • Minimum 6 months of sales experience (B2B … not B2C)


REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $47,500
ON-TARGET VARIABLE: $60,000 (… and that’s not a typo)

In August of 1923, the Brazier family of Silverton, Oregon took a road trip to visit relatives in Wolcott, Indiana.

SUMMARY:

Our client is a leading provider of medical insurance for dogs and cats to pet owners – across North America and the UK. They also offer management software to animal welfare organizations via a cloud-based application as well as a unique range of products and services for veterinarians, animal shelters and pet owners.

Reporting to the Sales Manager, this hybrid role offers flexibility with a home based / split arrangement.

You will sell both products and software solutions (SaaS) to animal clinics, hospitals and shelters located primarily in South Eastern USA … and primarily over the telephone.

Once every quarter … you will travel to your territory to meet clients – in person.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategically prospect for new business via sales leads, ad inquiries, trade shows, business directories etc …
Outbound calls to potential and existing clients to qualify leads and sell products and services
Enter orders into both SalesForce
Coordinate customer training (and conduct customer training, when applicable)
Build and maintain client relationships by creating best-in-class experience
Work with Outside Sales Executives to keep account activities and collateral up to date
Investigate and resolve customer problems with deliveries,
Travel 1 week per quarter (to meet clients) + 1 week per year (to attend trade shows)

REQUIREMENTS:

MUST HAVE
: 1 to 3 years of similar sales experience, with account management skills
Ability to manage difficult / emotional client situations
Respond to client needs and meets commitments
Driven to exceed sales targets, strong prospecting, relationship building and closing skills
Understand business implications of decisions; demonstrates knowledge of market and competition
BIG PLUS: Experience in animal/pet related industry

REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $45,000 – $50,000
ON-TARGET VARIABLE: $20,000 (uncapped)
