Did you know … the word ‘hamburger’ originates from the town of Hamburg in Germany?
The long and short of it goes a little something like this;

Back in the 19th-century … after trading with their counterparts in the Baltic provinces of Russia … German sailors brought back the idea of raw, shredded beef … (known today, as beef tartare).

Eventually … a local, German chef decided he’d throw in a bit of a ‘twist’ … and he cooked that beef! And, whaddaya know … the ‘hamburger’ was born!

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Well … nothing really.

That said … our client is one of the fastest growing burger chains in North America … and they’ve asked Match and Fable’s Mark Vandyke to assist them in a search for a General Manager for their Newmarket location.

POSITION:             GENERAL MANAGER
REPORTS TO:        REGIONAL OPERATIONS MANAGER
LOCATION:            NEWMARKET
INDUSTRY:            FAST CASUAL

SUMMARY:

Our client is looking for a candidate to set the pace, expectation and attitude of the team. The ‘right person’ will need to foster a culture of team work and accountability.  Everything from … guest experience to food safety to staff development falls under the scope of this role.

If you are a leader that can bring out the best in people and develop high performing teams, while delivering exceptional customer service, then this is the place for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage shift operations … with a ‘hands-on’ approach
  • Ensure an exceptional guest experience via effective staff training & development
  • Perform regular table visits to drive positive guest interactions
  • Oversee inventory levels, freshness standards and ordering of supplies
  • Oversee & manage company cleanliness and product freshness guidelines
  • Oversight and manage all COGS


REQUIREMENTS: 

  • MUST HAVE: 2 years’ experience in a similar role, management role (leading and coaching teams)
  • MUST HAVE: Kitchen experience, scheduling and inventory and cost controls
  • Deliver an elevated guest experience by creating an upbeat … high energy atmosphere
  • A ‘hands-on’ management style where you must be comfortable contributing in all aspects of the business (from prep … to cook … to well, whatever it takes)

REMUNERATION:

SALARY: $45,000 – $55,000 + incentives + bonuses

THE ‘NICKY-NICKY 9 DOOR’ ROLE (OTE: $107,500)

Growing up in my neighborhood, there came a time … (usually around the age of 10 or 11), when you realized you didn’t want to be looked at as a ‘kid’ anymore.

And there was only one way to gain the ‘street cred’ that required.
That rite of passage was … none other than … ‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Door’!

In my neighbourhood … ‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Door’ (also called … ‘Ding-Dong-Ditch’) had four, fixed rules;

RULE #1: It had to ‘go down’ on a Saturday night … after dark.
(So … if your parents insisted you had to be home “when the street lights came on” … you pretty much disqualified yourself!)

RULE #2: You couldn’t knock on the screen door … it had to be the ‘real’ door!
(Having to open the screen door wasted precious seconds … increasing the odds of getting caught.)

RULE #3: You had to knock 3 distinct times.
(Ringing the doorbell, while knocking would elevate you to legendary status!)

RULE #4: You couldn’t pick the target house … that was always decided for you!
(And, it was usually a house with a crazy dog … or heaven forbid, the house everyone insisted was haunted.)

So … what does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing really.

That said … if you consider it … ‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Door’ was my initiation into the world of cold-calling.

Our client will also consider, accomplished Inside Sales professionals, looking to step out from behind the desk … and take on an Outside Sales position.

POSITION:        SALES EXECUTIVE
REPORTS TO:   REGIONAL SALES MANAGER
TERRITORY:     CONCORD + RICHMOND HILL + AURORA + NEWMARKET
OFFICE:             NEWMARKET

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for building a client base through regular, territory sales calls
  • Prospect a geographic territory, targeting potential clients to initiate long-term partnerships
  • This role is 90% hunting and 10% farming
  • Provide consultative sales approach – creating value for both the client and the organization
  • Manage territory performance targets, while maintaining client satisfaction and overall results
  • Identify and prioritize high potential sales opportunities

REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST HAVE: Post-secondary education
  • MUST HAVE: The desire to learn from the best and put in the effort to succeed
  • Minimum 6 months of sales experience (B2B … not B2C)

REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $47,500
ON-TARGET VARIABLE: $60,000 (… and that’s not a typo)
ON-TARGET EARNINGS: $107,500 (uncapped)
OTHER: rrsp + benefits + car allowance + gas card + cell allowance

THE ‘KNOCKER-UPPER’ ROLE (OTE: $150,000 – $160,000)

In 18th century Britain … alarm clocks were neither reliable … nor cheap!
Even so … people still had to make sure they woke up on-time to get to work!
So … what did they do?

Well … they did what all their neighbours were doing.
They hired a “knocker-upper” to rouse them from their slumber.

This individual would carry a baton and knock on clients’ doors.
If clients lived on higher floors … they’d use a long stick … (often made from bamboo) to reach their bedroom windows.
The “knocker-upper” wouldn’t leave a client’s window until they were certain their client had climbed out of bed.

In return, the knocker-up would be paid a few pence a week.
Talk about a lousy job!?!?

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Well, nothing. Nothing at all.

This role is certainly not lousy … and the remuneration is a far cry from a few pence per week! Our client is looking for a senior, technical sales professional with experience selling into Tier 1 automotive.

POSITION:        SENIOR AUTOMATION SALES PROFESSIONAL
LOCATION:       BARRIE / NEWMARKET AREA
INDUSTRY:       AUTOMATION SYSTEMS
CALLING ON:  TIER 1 AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY (+ OTHER INDUSTRIES)

SUMMARY:

Our client is a World Class manufacturer of automation systems for industrial, commercial and service & assembly sectors. Their products and level of experience coupled with their focus on client satisfaction truly sets them apart.

They’re looking for an experienced and highly technical sales professional with experience selling automation & welding processes for manufacturing & production all types of businesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • New business acquisition and building a client base through regular sales calls
  • Pro-actively target Tier 1 automotive clients … to initiate long-term partnerships
  • Particular focus to expand client base … outside of automotive industry
  • Provide a consultative sales approach and respond to RFPs, RFIs and RFQs
  • Manage territory performance and identify & prioritize high potential sales opportunities
  • Mentor, coordinate and manage team of application engineers
  • Strat & BP initiatives, plan development & execution


REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST HAVE: Engineering degree (Mechanical, Industrial or Mechatronics)
  • MUST HAVE: 10+ years of technical sales experience, selling automation
  • Experience responding to RFPs, RFIs and RFQs
  • Experience selling complex automation solutions … at senior levels
  • Experience leading a team of application engineers
  • NICE TO HAVE: Experience in pulp molding
  • NOTE: Client may consider candidates who have similar experience outside of Tier 1 Automotive.


REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $110,000 – $120,000
ON-TARGET VARIABLE: $40,000 (uncapped)
ON-TARGET EARNINGS: $150,000 – $160,000
OTHER: car allowance + benefits
