THE ‘JOCKEY NOT THE HORSE’ ROLE

thejockeynotthehorse

You’ve heard the adage many times … (or maybe you’ve never heard it at all). But, when it comes to the recruitment industry … it couldn’t ring more true – always “bet the jockey, not the horse”!

At Match and Fable, we’re big believers that when it comes to the recruitment … clients value an excellent headhunter far more than they care what agency that headhunter happens to work for.

We also believe that in today’s day and age … an excellent headhunter deserves the lion’s share of the commission they work so hard to earn.

We also think headhunters should be able to ‘do their thing’ wherever they chose to do it.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Well, everything … because the role is with us!

POSITION:                    HEADHUNTER
REPORTS TO:               MARK KRPAN
LOCATION:                   YOUR PLACE (WHEREVER THAT MAY BE)
TARGET MARKET:      OPEN TO SPECIALTIES

SUMMARY:

Match and Fable takes great pride in being the “anti-recruiter, recruiter”. Our clients choose us because we deliver consistent results … and a great experience. Ultimately … we make our clients happy!

And … unlike the hordes of recruiters hiding behind laptops, blasting out mass emails to hundreds of random candidates and praying somebody ‘bites’ … we pick up the phone (with urgency) … and we headhunt!

Business is booming … and we’re looking for strong talent to join our team.

If you’re a headhunter who knows what you’re doing and think its time to earn what you’re worth … this is your chance.

That said … none of us were headhunters before we became headhunters, so … if you think you have what it takes to be a headhunter … we’re willing to listen. And … if you’ve got ‘the jam’, we’ll show you the ropes!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Securing Clients – just like all other professional firms, headhunters need to find clients to service. As such, business development and networking are critical components of this role.
  • Finding Talent – once they have mandates to fill … headhunters use a variety of techniques to find and assess candidates. These include personal networking, social media and Boolean search.
  • Navigating the Interview Process – this involves candidate screening and presentations, interview scheduling and multiple ‘circlebacks’ with client and candidates, alike.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST: Business development experience.
  • MUST: The ability to assess fit of candidates versus client requirements.
  • MUST: Expert level organizational and time management skills.
  • MUST: Supreme, professional urgency in everything you do … (we aren’t looking for a Lazy Larry).
  • MUST: Self-discipline (the ability to work from a home office and ‘get the job done’).

THE ‘JACKPOT’ ROLE (OTE: $90,000 – $105,000 USD)

Jackpot

Abraham Shakespeare was born in April 1966. The product of a troubled childhood … he dropped out of school after 7th grade … and spent the better part of the next 3 decades taking odd jobs as a laborer.

On November 15, 2006, on his way to Miami … Abraham and a co-worker named Michael Ford stopped at a convenience store in Frostproof, FL. Ford grabbed some cigarettes and a soda pop … and Abraham plunked down two of the five dollars he had in his pocket, for a few lottery tickets. The next morning, Abraham was holding the winning ticket to the Florida State Lottery … worth an astounding $30,000,000 dollars!

He bought a million-dollar home and a Rolex watch (albeit from a pawn shop) … and eased into the $17,000,000 dollars he’d chosen to receive as a lump sum option.

In October 2008, Shakespeare answered a call from a woman named Dee Dee Moore who explained she wanted to write a book about his life.

They ended up starting a business together and in short order, Dee Dee stole a million dollars. 14 months later … police unearthed Abraham’s body from under a freshly poured concrete slab at Dee Dee’s house.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s current role? Absolutely nothing.
That said … the role we’re working on could be a real jackpot for the right individual.

And … if you are a stellar sales person … we can virtually guarantee a fortune far better than that which befell poor Mr. Shakespeare!

THE ‘SNAKE OIL’ ROLE (OTE: $90,000 – $105,000 USD)

SnakeOil

In 1854 … Clark Stanley was born in Abilene, Texas. He claimed that after a decade as a cowboy, he spent two years studying under a Hopi medicine man in Arizona. During his “apprenticeship”, Stanley claimed he was introduced to the unique, medicinal properties of snake oil.

Stanley soon began peddling his own version of Snake Oil Liniment at medicine shows across the Southwestern USA. A consummate showman … Stanley would stand before a gathered crowd … kill a few snakes and mix his potion. The mesmerized onlookers would inevitably open their wallets … paying 50 cents per bottle (equal to $15 in 2018).

He claimed his cure-all treated a laundry list of afflictions … from headaches to arthritis … to sciatica!
The “Rattlesnake King” eventually established production facilities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Short story shorter … in 1917 federal investigators seized a shipment of Stanley’s potion and determined it contained mineral oil, a fatty oil (likely beef fat), red pepper and turpentine … and not a single drop of snake oil!

Stanley was fined $20 for “misbranding” his product as a pain remedy and effectively disappeared from the public eye.

What does this have to do with our current role? Absolutely nothing.

In fact, my client’s offering is the antithesis of “snake oil”. Their solution is the essence of cutting edge … expertly unifying security solutions with the latest in modern technology.

THE ‘NEXT EPISODE’ ROLE (OTE: $90,000 – $105,000 USD)

NextEpisode.png

In July 1999 … Andre Romelle Young (better known as … Dr. Dre) released “The Next Episode” (it was the third single, from his second studio album). The track featured Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and the late, Nate Dogg.

Since that time and as a result of his exceptionally shrewd business sense, Dr. Dre moved on to producing albums for other artists (including Eminem) and launching the wildly successful ‘Beats by Dre’ headphones. He would go on to sell that business to Apple in May 2014 for a reported, whopping … 3 billion dollars! Needless to say, he is now considered the richest man in Hip-Hop!

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing really.

That said …  just as Dre moved on from humble beginnings in Compton … my client is looking for a sales professional who is ready to step into the ‘next episode’ of their career and light things up!

bangbang2.png

If you’ve been in sales for any decent amount of time … you’ve likely held a role (at some point) where the product or service you were selling was nothing more than a “me too” offering.

As much as the marketing team tried to squeeze out key differentiators, truth was … there weren’t many.  And, as much as your VP, Sales insisted you focus on some obscure value … it simply didn’t exist.

Now, imagine a sales role where your solution is head and shoulders above your competitors. For that matter … imagine not really having any legitimate competitors!

THE ‘CRÈME DE LA CRÈME’ ROLE ($60,000 – $65,000+)

cremedela-USE THIS.png

We’re pretty sure you know the term … “crème de la crème” is borrowed from the French language, where it literally means … “cream of the cream”.

We’re also pretty certain you know that (metaphorically speaking) the term refers to “the best of the best”.

THE ‘WALLY PIPP’ ROLE (OTE: $120,000 – $135,000+)

WallyPipp.png

On June 2, 1925, the New York Yankees were on a five-game losing streak … and their miserable record had them slotted in second-to-last place in the American League. Upon arriving at Yankee Stadium, one of their star players – Wally Pipp, was complaining about a headache … and asked the team trainer for 2 aspirins.

The team’s manager, Miller Huggins happened to overhear the discussion and said … “Wally, take the day off … we’ll try that kid Gehrig at first today … and get you back in there tomorrow.”

This would mark the first game of Lou Gehrig’s career … and he would go on to play an incredible 2,130 consecutive games … over the next 14 seasons!

Years later, Wally Pipp would go on to say … “I took the two most expensive aspirin in history.”

THE ‘EXECUTIONER’ ROLE ($97,000 – $108,000)

ExecutionerRole.png

In the late 1700’s, in Roscommon, Ireland … a woman named Betty and her son lived in horrible poverty.  Although uncommon for someone raised in such conditions, Betty was literate … so she taught her son to read and write. She would constantly remind her son that only money would bring him happiness … and when he was old enough … he left Roscommon to find his fortune – in America!

Years later, one dark evening, a tall, well-dressed gentleman knocked on Betty’s door asking for a place to stay. She opened her house to him, but later that night, as he lay sleeping … Betty crept quietly into his room … and murdered the man for his money!

As Betty sat rifling through the man’s belongings, she discovered this ‘stranger’ was in fact … her son!

Overcome by the horror of her actions, Betty ran screaming into the streets … confessing her guilt. She was arrested, stood trial and was condemned to death – by hanging!

On the day of her execution … as Betty and several other criminals were being led into the yard … they were informed the executioner had “called in sick” … and the sheriff was refusing to personally perform the executions.

Taking the term ‘carpe diem’ to a whole new level …Betty asked that her life be spared and in return, she’d hang the rest of the prisoners herself!

The sheriff agreed … and Betty got to work! “Lady Betty” was so efficient and capable … that she was appointed Roscommon’s Hang Woman … a job with a yearly salary … as well room and board!

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

THE ‘LOUIS LASSEN’ ROLE ($45,000 – $55,000+)

LouisLassen.png

While there’s an ongoing debate as to who the original creator of the hamburger is … Louis Lassen is most frequently credited with fashioning the very first one, in New Haven, Connecticut … in 1900.

As the story goes … a customer was a bit pressed for time and asked Louis for something “quick and delicious”.
Lassen grabbed some ground beef and mixed it with the ingredients he usually used for his steak sandwiches. He then broiled the ground beef and pressed it between two pieces of toasted bread.

No one could ever have imagined the popularity the hamburger would go on to enjoy. In fact … it’s estimated that Americans consume 50,000,000,000 (and that’s not a typo – 50 BILLION) … hamburgers each year!
