That said, Match and Fable’s latest mandate is for a HR Director who (by the very nature of the position) will be exposed to sensitive information and will very likely need to keep a few secrets of their own!

SUMMARY:

Our client is looking for a Director of HR to be based from their offices in Oakville.
The Director will manage 3 individuals; an HR Manager, an HR Generalist and an HR Coordinator.
We’re looking for a seasoned professional … with well-rounded experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a partner + consultant to with the management team – understanding the demands of the business
  • Partner with management to develop / implement HR strategies in support of business objectives
  • Support HR team and management with grievance management, contract interpretation / negotiation, resolving performance-related issues, conflict resolution and effective employment termination
  • Direct HR team + management + employees with respect to the application of HR policies and processes
  • Communicate organizational objectives & ensure dialogue planning & evaluations are properly completed
  • Participate in the annual Succession Planning and Compensation processes
  • Lead teams to address business opportunities or challenges (large projects, M&A’s and facility closures)


REQUIREMENTS

  • MUST HAVE: University Degree
  • NICE TO HAVE: Master’s Degree, CHRP + any other HR related designations or associations
  • MUST BE: Very well-versed in; Compensation + Recruitment + Organizational Effectiveness + Talent Development
  • Experience coaching and advising Senior Leaders
  • 10 – 15 years’ experience in HR with AT LEAST 5 years’ senior level, HR management experience
  • A confident personality … coupled with a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, procedures
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, SAP or HRIS system + advanced Excel skills
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to coach and mentor other HR professionals + share knowledge
  • Some local travel and approximately 6 – 8x / year to Quebec


REMUNERATION

BASE SALARY: $130,000 – $140,000
MBO: up to 20% ($26,000 – $28,000)
ON-TARGET EARNINGS: $156,000 – $168,000

THE ‘MIRACLE’ ROLE (OTE: $175,000 – $185,000+)

MIRACLE

Herbert Paul Brooks Jr. was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1937 and had a moderately successful career as a hockey player. However, once he hung up his skates and took a position behind the bench … his name would be etched into hockey history!

On February 22, 1980 … in Lake Placid, New York, the hockey team Brooks had pieced together from a patchwork of American college and other amateur players took to the ice in the semi-final game … against an all-star line up from the Soviet Union.

His group of underdogs pulled-off one of the most miraculous upsets in hockey history.
They defeated the USSR by a score of 4-3 … in what is commonly referred to as … ‘The Miracle on Ice’.

When the host of ABC’s Wide World of Sports, Jim McKay was asked to describe what viewers had just witnessed; he said … “That may be the greatest upset in sports history” … adding it was the equivalent of an all-star football team of Canadian college boys beating the Pittsburgh Steelers – (who had just won their fourth Super Bowl in six years)!

That said … just as Brooks’ clear and competent leadership inspired these young men to accomplish the impossible … our client is looking for strong ‘leadership capacity’ in their next Director, Operations – (and … sprinkling in a few miracles … every now and then, wouldn’t hurt)!

SUMMARY:

This Director, Operations is ultimately responsible for the operation of 4 manufacturing plants (3 in Ontario and 1 in Quebec. Our client is looking for a ‘hands-on” leader … not an arm chair quarterback!

The mandate is simple:
Ensure all 4 Plants operate at maximum efficiency & productivity, while adhering to all laws, protection of employees’ safety and product safety.

POSITION:        DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS
REPORTS TO:   SENIOR DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS
OFFICE:             MISSISSAUGA
INDUSTRY:       MANUFACTURING

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide operational guidance to Plant Managers and staff – across 4 manufacturing facilities
  • Work with Plant Managers, Supervisors, Engineering and Suppliers to reduce operational cost, utilities and raw materials
  • Along with Plant Managers … determine goals for individual plants and monitor effectiveness
  • Conduct annual performance reviews with the Plant Managers and their supervising staff
  • Monitor daily operational systems and processes of plants versus efficiency goals (adjusting processes, as necessary)
  • Maintain active relationships with all Plant Department Heads … and review KPIs … ensuring goals are met
  • Search for areas of opportunity in reviewing results … to find “tweaks” in processes to bolster performance
  • Provide feedback on union actives and be fully involved in grievances when they reach arbitration

REQUIREMENTS

  • HIGHLY PREFERRED: Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Engineering
  • MUST HAVE: 8+ years’ experience in Senior Management Operational capacity (must have led direct reports)
  • Experienced with Electrical Control Design and PLC software systems
  • Skilled in production, quality, labour management, employee relations, customer relations and finance
  • Proven experience in the ability in plant and process improvements
  • Exquisite time management / planning skills (to implement and complete projects)
  • Budget planning and maintaining
  • Proven experience formulating innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication skills and proven negotiating skills with suppliers and labour / unions
  • Working knowledge of Safety, Environmental and Quality Standards
  • Technical support for plant engineering and maintenance departments
  • Able to balance multiple projects simultaneously … and work under pressure to achieve project completion timelines
  • Ability to travel (not a heavy travel schedule) to all 4 Canadian plants … (and occasionally, to USA)
  • And finally … the ability (and desire) to ‘get the job done’ when extenuating circumstances inevitably arise.

REMUNERATION

BASE SALARY RANGE: $140,000 – $150,000
ON-TARGET MBO: $35,000 (can earn more, for over achievement)

That said … Match and Fable is on the prowl for a Director of Culinary for one of our clients.
And, at the riskof being a bit blunt … a ‘nova’ level Director simply won’t cut it.

SUMMARY

The Culinary Director role is a critically strategic position for our client. The position demands a truly innovative leader who will create menus and standards … leading to exemplary dining experiences across all of the company’s establishments.

This individual will lead and train local culinary teams to provide exceptional dining experiences at all of the organization’s locations via a variety of innovative systems. Collaboration with the company’s world class chef partners will give this ‘supernova’ the opportunity to work with the ‘best in the business’ in the marketplace.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop culinary plans with short and long-term goals ensuring superior levels of guest satisfaction
  • Enhance food quality levels by establishing standards while collaborating on diverse menus to satisfy specific regional preferences
  • Provide culinary and service expertise, as well as operational support to site level culinary and service teams
  • Research, test and introduce new and improved products to enhance the dining experience
  • Establish menus and products in line with food cost projections, operational feasibility, quality standards and guest satisfaction

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years’ experience at a Director level role with a $20MM+ organization
  • Highly developed culinary expertise and principles … including a variety of ethnic/regional cuisines
  • Solid leadership experience in world-class, full-service restaurant environments
