THE ‘BRASS TACKS’ ROLE (OTE: $107,500)

brasstacks

The saying “getting down to brass tacks” has a number of suggested origins – (some more popular than others).

These include; the brass tacks found on fine furniture … Cockney rhyming slang for the term “hard facts” … and the brass tacks that were hammered into a sales counter – to mark precise measuring points.

A less known theory involves the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
Following Lincoln’s death … the undertaker, R.F. Harvey and his employees were asked to design the President’s coffin – using silver tacks as decoration.

In the mid-1800’s it was becoming increasingly popular to decorate coffins – and people would often spell out the deceased’s initials on the casket. Generally, brass tacks were used, rather than silver ones … as it was a far more economical option.

In this case, the term “getting down to brass tacks” referred to getting down to very serious business – the business of death!

So … what does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

THE ‘KNOCKER-UPPER’ ROLE (OTE: $150,000 – $160,000)

KnockerUpper.png

In 18th century Britain … alarm clocks were neither reliable … nor cheap!
Even so … people still had to make sure they woke up on-time to get to work!
So … what did they do?

Well … they did what all their neighbours were doing.
They hired a “knocker-upper” to rouse them from their slumber.

This individual would carry a baton and knock on clients’ doors.
If clients lived on higher floors … they’d use a long stick … (often made from bamboo) to reach their bedroom windows.
The “knocker-upper” wouldn’t leave a client’s window until they were certain their client had climbed out of bed.

In return, the knocker-up would be paid a few pence a week.
Talk about a lousy job!?!?

THE ‘CONDUCTOR’ ROLE (PHARMACY MANAGER) ($115,000 – $120,000+)

the conductor role

We’ve all seen conductors stand in front of their orchestra … waving their arms in the air. However … most of us don’t appreciate the true value of their contribution.

In fact … the conductor’s primary purpose is to keep the orchestra coordinated, so each musician knows when to start and stop playing – at the exact right times.

Interestingly enough, the radius of the conductor’s motions (the exaggerated, circular flailing of the arms) appears to have zero impact on perceived beat.  Apparently … it’s the velocity and acceleration of their motions that are the key factor in determining beat!

THE ‘IRON LADY’ ROLE ($115,000 – $120,000+)

MF SIGN - EARLY BIRD GETS WORM - WORM IS GONE

Margaret Hilda Roberts grew up in Grantham, England … in an apartment above her family’s grocery store.

A strong student, she attended Grantham Girls’ High School … and eventually earned a degree in Chemistry from Oxford. Margaret briefly entered the world of politics and then studied law … graduating in 1953.

Returning to politics shortly after … Margaret (now Thatcher) was appointed to Secretary of State for Education and Science … and 9 years later … became Britain’s first lady Prime Minister – a position she held until 1990.

A staunch conservative … Thatcher tackled many delicate issues including Britain’s wicked recession, massive privatization … and the Falklands War of 1982.

Interestingly enough …. she also survived an assassination attempt by the IRA in 1984.

Along with her ally, US President Ronald Reagan … “The Iron Lady” played a significant role in weakening Soviet Communism and the subsequent collapse of it’s structure. It’s been said Margaret Thatcher was more popular with the Russian people … than she was in her own country!
