As December rolls around in North America, children’s fascination with Christmas and Santa Claus is all a buzz!

But … as our children contemplate the gifts they’ll ask for from Santa … their counterparts in Eastern Europe are faced with a far different scenario.

On December 5th, before they hit the sheets … children place a boot outside their house. While they eagerly anticipate the arrival of St. Nicholas and his treats … they also fear a visit from the dreaded Krampus!

Essentially, Krampus is the Christmas Devil.
Half-goat … half-man, … this demon’s agenda ‘flips the script’ of Old St. Nick!
Krampus’ mission is to search out the naughty children and administer appropriate punishment.

In modest cases, this involves a ‘simple’ whipping with a wooden stick.
In more severe scenarios … Krampus is said to toss the worst children in his sack … dragging them to his lair … where he devours them for his Christmas Dinner!

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

THE ‘EVEL KNIEVEL’ ROLE – (OTE: $100,000 – $105,000+)

Evel Knievel

Robert Craig Knievel, Jr. was born in 1938 and raised by his grandparents in the mining town of Butte, Montana. His early career was a mish-mash of occupations including; pro hockey, the U.S. Army, copper mining and even a stint as a petty criminal … where he dabbled in safe-cracking & hold-ups!

In 1965, he left the life of crime and pulled together a troupe called Evel Knievel’s Motorcycle Devils.

His ‘thing’ was motorcycle jumping … and his New Year’s Eve stunt in 1967 put him ‘on the map’ … the world over.

The Caesar’s Palace fountain jump would mark his longest attempt … at 141 feet.
Unfortunately … mechanical issues with his motorcycle resulted in a terrible crash … where Evel crushed his pelvis and broke his femur, hip, wrist and both ankles – not to mention the 4-week coma!

Evel’s career would include numerous jumps including; Greyhound buses, live sharks and Snake River Canyon.

He retired in 1980 … having suffered nearly 40 broken bones over his career.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

THE ‘LAUNCHING PAD’ ROLE (OTE: $82,500+)

Launching Pad

On March 23, 1965 … Gus Grissom and John Young prepared to blast into space on the Gemini III capsule.

One of their objectives was to determine how astronauts could eat … (mess-free) during their missions.

To put it mildly … the cuisine on the Gemini III sucked … consisting of squeezy tubes and plastic packages.

The reason for this is … the dangers of crumbs in space are substantial … and can have fatal results.

Crumbs can drift through the cabin and lodge themselves inside critical instrument panels.

Prior to taking off … John Young managed to smuggle a Corned Beef on Rye sandwich onto the capsule.

Two hours into the mission … Young unwrapped the sandwich … and offered some to Grissom.

To their horror … they realized the crumbs from the sandwich were not conducive to zero-gravity conditions and were scattering everywhere!

Needless to say, NASA harshly reprimanded Young … and strict protocols were put in place for future missions!

THE “SCOTTY BOWMAN” ROLE (OTE: $135,000 – $145,000+)

Scotty Bowman 3

Early in his career … as coach of the St. Louis Blues, Scotty Bowman imposed a curfew on his team – the night before a game.  Not fond of performing ‘bed-checks’ to make sure the players were back in time … Scotty approached the hotel’s bellhop, handed him ten dollars (remember … this was the 1960’s) … and a hockey stick.

As instructed … as midnight struck … the bellhop took his position by the lobby door and as the tardy players strolled (or stumbled) in, the bellhop asked them to autograph his hockey stick.

The next morning … Scotty brought this very same stick into the change room … and handed out the appropriate punishment.

Mr. Bowman holds the record for the most regular season wins (1,244) and Stanley Cup playoffs (223).

THE ‘OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS’ ROLE (OTE: $82,500+)

Growing up in my neighborhood, there came a time … usually around the age of 10, when you longed to graduate from being looked at as a little kid … to having what we considered to be the ultimate ‘street cred’.

That rite of passage was none other than … ‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Doors’!

‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Doors’ (also known as … ‘Ding-Dong-Ditch’) had 4 simple rules;

RULE #1:
It had to ‘go down’ on a Saturday night … and only after dark.
(If you had to be home “when the street lights came on” … you effectively disqualified yourself).

RULE #2:
You couldn’t just knock on the screen door … it had to be the ‘real’ door!
(Having to open the screen door wasted precious seconds … elevating the odds of getting caught).

RULE #3:
You had to knock 3 times and clearly say the word ‘steamboat’ in between knocks.
(A combination of ringing the doorbell while knocking would elevate you to legend status)!

RULE #4:
You couldn’t pick the house … that was decided for you, and the house usually fell into one of three categories;

It was the house everyone thought was ‘haunted’ … the house with two ferocious pit bulls or, … God forbid … Mr. Watson’s place!
(For the record … no one actually knew Mr. Watson’s real life story but the stories we’d heard as kids would paralyze you simply by having to walk by his house … much less having to make the trip to his porch)!
