THE ‘IRON LADY’ ROLE (OTE: $168,000 – $180,000)

IronLady.png

Margaret Hilda Roberts grew up in an apartment above her family’s grocery store in Grantham, England.
A stellar student, she would eventually earn a degree in Chemistry from Oxford University.
Margaret briefly entered the world of politics … and then chose to study law, graduating in 1953.

Margaret (now Thatcher) eventually returned to politics … and became Secretary of State for Education and Science.
9 years later, she would become Britain’s first lady Prime Minister – a position she held until 1990.

A staunch conservative, Thatcher tackled delicate issues including Britain’s recession, massive privatization and the Falklands War of 1982. Remarkably, she survived an assassination attempt by the IRA in 1984!

Along with her ally, US President, Ronald Reagan … “The Iron Lady” played a key role in the weakening of Soviet Communism and the subsequent collapse of the soviet structure. It’s been said … Thatcher was more popular with the Russian people than she was in her very own country!

THE ‘JOHNNY -VS- WALDO’ ROLE (OTE: $107,500)

Johnny-vs-Waldo.png

One of seven children, Johnny Cash was born in Arkansas on February 26, 1932 and grew up on his family farm.
The Cash family made a very modest living in the cotton fields … a job Johnny was introduced to at the tender age of 5!

46 years later … and following significant financial success as a country singer … Johnny had built the “House of Cash” on a farm, 25 miles outside Nashville – where he kept exotic animals.

The winter of 1981 was exceptionally harsh … and as such, Johnny decided to move his animals into shelters to help them survive.

Johnny approached his 7-foot ostrich – Waldo, but it was clear the bird wasn’t in a co-operative mood.

As Johnny cornered the bird, Waldo leaped into the air … delivering a brutal kick … splitting Johnny’s stomach wide-open. The force of Waldo’s kick resulted in 5 broken ribs and internal bleeding.

TheExecutioner.png

In the late 1700’s, in Roscommon, Ireland … a woman named Betty and her son lived in terrible poverty.  Although uncommon for someone raised in such conditions, Betty was literate … so she taught her son to read and write. She constantly reminded her son that only money could bring him happiness … and when he was old enough … he left Roscommon to find fortune – in America!

One dark evening, many years later … a well-dressed gentleman knocked on Betty’s door asking for a place to stay. She welcomed him in, but that night, as he lay sleeping … Betty (with knife in hand) crept into his room … and murdered the man for his money!

As Betty rifled through the stranger’s belongings, she discovered this ‘stranger’ was in fact … her son!
Overcome by the horror of her actions, Betty ran screaming into the streets … confessing her guilt.
She was arrested, stood trial … and was condemned to death – by hanging!

On Execution Day … as Betty and several other criminals were filing into the yard … they were informed the executioner had “called in sick” … and the sheriff was refusing to personally perform the executions.

Seizing the opportunity … Betty asked that her life be spared and in return, she’d hang the others herself!
The sheriff agreed … and Betty got to work!

“Lady Betty” (as she came to be known) was so efficient … she was appointed Roscommon’s official Hang Woman, a job with a yearly salary … as well room and board!

In 2009 … Raquel Guimaraes (a fashion designer) was having difficulty finding people to crochet and knit her hand-made designs.

She approached the prison’s officials with an interesting proposal; to be allowed to train 18 prisoners (convicted of crimes including robbery and murder) how to crochet and knit for her clothing line.

The program, named the “Lotus Flower” allows prisoners to earn a wage and master a new skill.

And, not only do prisoners earn 75% of the minimum wage … but they also have one day deducted from their sentence … for every three days worked!
