One night in 1953 … Robert Kearns and his lovely bride were celebrating their wedding night.
But … what’s a wedding celebration without the popping of champagne!?!?!?

Milliseconds after one of the bottles was popped … the cork struck Robert … leaving him legally blind in his left eye!
To make matters worse … Robert would also go on to suffer from irregular blinking patterns.

Ten years later … as he was driving his car in a light rain … the continuous motion of his car’s wiper blades not only irritated his limited vision … but more importantly … sparked an idea that would ultimately result in millions of dollars in his bank account!

Inspired by the the human eye (which blinks every few seconds) … Kearns invented the intermittent windshield wiper – an idea that would eventually find its way into every vehicle across the globe.

What does this have to do with my current role? Well … nothing really.
That said … this role is pretty awesome … so it will be gone in the blink of an eye!

SUMMARY:

This is a 12-month contract role (covering a maternity leave).
My client does have the option of creating another territory … if this person ‘shoots the lights out’!

My client is a national retail media firm with a focus on creative, mass outreach advertising based on under-utilized consumer traffic data in grocery stores.

This role requires someone with structured and disciplined sales success.

Based from a home office and reporting to the VP, you will be responsible for both business development (75%) and account management (25%) in the GTA.

He joined the FBI in 1969 and since he knew how to drive an 18-wheeler, he was assigned to the truck hijacking squad.

THE ‘LAUNCHING PAD’ ROLE (OTE: $82,500+)

Launching Pad

On March 23, 1965 … Gus Grissom and John Young prepared to blast into space on the Gemini III capsule.

One of their objectives was to determine how astronauts could eat … (mess-free) during their missions.

To put it mildly … the cuisine on the Gemini III sucked … consisting of squeezy tubes and plastic packages.

The reason for this is … the dangers of crumbs in space are substantial … and can have fatal results.

Crumbs can drift through the cabin and lodge themselves inside critical instrument panels.

Prior to taking off … John Young managed to smuggle a Corned Beef on Rye sandwich onto the capsule.

Two hours into the mission … Young unwrapped the sandwich … and offered some to Grissom.

THE ‘BIG POPPA’ ROLE

At the age of 15, Chris Wallace was pushing drugs on the streets of New York City.
Seven years later … the 6’ 3”, 300-pound rapper (also known as; Biggie Smalls, Notorious B.I.G. & Big Poppa), released Ready to Die … cementing his legendary place in Hip Hop history!

What you may not know is … this was the only album Biggie would release, during his lifetime.

I won’t go into the misfortunes that weaved their way through his life … but I will point out he was one of the main players in Hip Hop’s East Coast -vs- West Coast rivalry.
A feud that would eventually lead to his murder in March 1997!

What does this have to do with my latest role?
Well … nothing really.

THE ‘MONKEY IN THE MIDDLE’ ROLE

One of the first games we learned to play as children was … ‘Monkey in the Middle’.
Not the most exciting game in the world … but the rules were pretty straight forward.

One unlucky ‘sucker’ stood in the middle of a group of other kids and tried to intercept a ball.

When they did … the kid who had touched the ball last, assumed the position of the ‘monkey’.

More often than not …. if a ‘round’ took more than a few minutes … (and it usually did) … the kid in the middle would usually just give up … and we’d all go play road hockey, instead.

What does this have to do with my latest role?
Well … nothing really.

That said, on this mandate … I’m looking for someone who is gifted at dealing with middlemen … and has a knack for creating lasting impressions with people.

Please realize … these middlemen are no monkeys … and they’re being courted by many others – just like you!

SUMMARY:

In this role, the M&A Associate’s primary objective is to network with Bankers and Business Brokers (across North America), forging genuine relationships … and capturing their ‘mind space’.

The goal of the M&A Associate is to ensure that when a business matching the type of business my client likes to acquire comes on the market … these middlemen will call them first!

POSITION: MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS ASSOCIATE
OFFICE: NORTH YORK
SECTOR: INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING
TERRITORY: NORTH AMERICA
TRAVEL: approximately 15%

RESPONSIBILITIES:

There are 2 main responsibilities in this role; Deal Origination and Investment Analysis.

  • Maintain and develop relationships, liaising with investment banks, accounting firms and other middlemen specialized in North American low-mid markets
  • Visit with Brokers … and attend M&A conferences – across North America
  • Analyze investment opportunities: review, screen and scrutinize Confidential Information Memorandums
  • Perform financial analysis of companies
  • Visit acquisition targets across North America, meeting with management teams and interacting with 3rd parties to access information
  • Write memorandums and participate in the investment recommendation process … based on the overall acquisition strategy


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergrad Degree in Business, Engineering or MBA
  • Experience in the Financial Industry would be optimal
  • While this person doesn’t need to have direct sales experience … they must be sales-minded!
  • 2+ years’ manufacturing environment exposure (private equity, investment banking or management consulting)
  • Experience calling on and pitching to senior management decision makers
  • Exposure to / understanding of … the manufacturing industry
  • Extroverted personality with the ability to ‘hold your own’ with Wall Street and Bay Street Executives
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial statements
  • Must be memorable and leave an impression. Generally … the type of person people gravitate to


REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $80,000 – $100,000

THE ‘SALT’ ROLE (OTE: $87,500 – $102,500+)

Salt is essential for human life … and back in the old days, salt was the primary method of food preservation.
(Some may argue, salt is also essential for a night of tequila drinking – but that’s beside the point!)

On another note … to be ‘worth one’s salt’ means to be worth one’s pay.
In fact, the word ‘salary’ comes from the Latin word, salarium.
Apparently … ‘salarium’ was the money paid to Roman soldiers for the purchase of salt.

What does this have to do with my latest role? Not much, really.
That said … my client is looking for a hunter sales professional who is ‘worth their salt’ and looking for  a new business development role.
By the way … the company won’t try and pay you with salt!

SUMMARY:

If strategically hunting new business doesn’t excite you … you can stop reading now.
However, if a hunter is what you are … this could be the role you’ve been looking for.

Based from a home office in the Vancouver area and reporting to the VP, Sales (who is a wonderful individual) … you will be responsible for securing new business.

And … while an Inside Sales Team generates appointments on your behalf, I’m looking for someone who looks at these appointments as ‘gravy’ … and has the internal desire to find their own opportunities, as well.

POSITION: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE
REPORTING TO: VICE-PRESIDENT, SALES
TERRITORY: VANCOUVER
OFFICE: HOME-BASED (IN THE VANCOUVER AREA)
INDUSTRY: MARKETING SERVICES / LOYALTY PROGRAMS

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Hunt for new business … within the Greater Vancouver Area
Qualify leads (from internal lead generators) and convert them into sales of products and services
Persistent, professional pursuit for new sales opportunities
Achieve assigned sales quotas

REQUIREMENTS:

7 – 10 years of verifiable success in sales within the SMB space (Hospitality or B2B experience is a must)!
Successful sales experience – in a hunter capacity (cold-calling / networking)
Experience selling direct to the owner of a company (it’s a different sale when it’s someone’s own business)
A ‘hungry for the sale’ mentality – demonstrating initiative and self-motivation
A genuine commitment to customer service – and desire to always go the ‘extra mile’
Time management & organizational skills – the ability to get things done … when there’s tons to do!
Cultivate new business through cold-calling, networking, referrals and company booked appointments
Conduct 10, quality, businesses meetings – weekly

REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $65,000 – $80,000
VARIABLE EARNINGS @ 100% TARGET: $22,500 (totally achievable + uncapped potential)
ON-TARGET EARNINGS (YEAR 1) = $87,500 – $102,500
