While the odds of being struck by lightning are roughly 1 in 12,000 … these odds didn’t help Roy Cleveland Sullivan!

Now … if you’ve never heard of Mr. Sullivan … you might be in for quite a shock ( … pardon the pun).
Sullivan was a US Park Ranger at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

Between 1942 and 1977, he was struck by lightning – 7 different times … living to tell each tale.

Sadly … while he survived the lightning strikes … he met his demise by virtue of a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.

So … what does this have to do with my latest role? Nothing really.

SUMMARY:

My client is a global security company. They help their clients mitigate risk … thus, allowing them to focus on their core service offering. I am looking for a Director, Operations who will be responsible for the operations of the company’s Static Guarding Division in Ontario.

Responsibility to lead 5 direct reports and a substantial field ops contingent.

The individual I’m looking for must be from the Static Guarding industry … period – no exceptions! I’m looking for someone with personality … gravitas + charisma.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct responsibility for Ontario Operations … static security division
  • Manage and support the Operations Team … across Ontario
  • Increase efficiency of operation by introducing best practices and technology
  • Plan, develop and execute strategies to assist in achieving sales goals
  • Develop genuine relationships with existing clientele to strengthen business partnerships
  • Execute provincial and national agreements with static and insurance security clients
  • Ensure operational excellence and flawless execution
  • Build relationships with front line staff and demonstrate a ‘hands-on’ approach
  • Support affiliate companies and assist on joint projects

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-4 years as an Operations Manager … within the static guarding industry
  • Ability to inspire a team … and the ability to build consensus to promote common cause
  • Persuasive … and able to adapt communication style to both audience and situation


REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $80,000
MBO: $10,000
ON-TARGET EARNINGS: $90,000
OTHER: RRSP + benefits + car allowance + gas card

THE “SCOTTY BOWMAN” ROLE (OTE: $135,000 – $145,000+)

Early in his career … as coach of the St. Louis Blues, Scotty Bowman imposed a curfew on his team – the night before a game.  Not fond of performing ‘bed-checks’ to make sure the players were back in time … Scotty approached the hotel’s bellhop, handed him ten dollars (remember … this was the 1960’s) … and a hockey stick.

As instructed … as midnight struck … the bellhop took his position by the lobby door and as the tardy players strolled (or stumbled) in, the bellhop asked them to autograph his hockey stick.

The next morning … Scotty brought this very same stick into the change room … and handed out the appropriate punishment.

Mr. Bowman holds the record for the most regular season wins (1,244) and Stanley Cup playoffs (223).
He ranks 2nd ‘all-time’ for most Stanley Cup victories by a player, coach or executive with thirteen!

He is widely recognized as one of the best coaches the NHL has ever seen.

My client is looking for a ‘really smart’ Sales Leader to join them at their table.
The Director of Sales is responsible for actively managing the performance of the Ontario sales team.
The company’s clientele consists of primary care physicians … but my client isn’t necessarily bent on a candidate from the HealthCare space … in fact … they’d prefer a strong B2B Sales Leader.
The team is comprised of ‘hunters who hunt’ and ‘farmers who farm’.
The sales team calls on primary care physicians across Ontario and their products and services help these physicians achieve a wide variety of business related objectives.
The role of the Director is to help the team achieve revenue quota and penetrate their current base.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with Executive Team to bring sophistication to the daily sales efforts of the team
  • Promote a consultative sales approach – driving value for the company and their clients
  • Manage a growing team which is currently comprised of 3 Hunter Sales Reps and 4 Account Managers
  • Develop a successful strategy … supported by training and motivation of the sales team

THE ‘BLOODHOUND GANG’ ROLE (OTE: $144,000 – $180,000)

“Whenever there’s trouble … we’re there on the double … we’re the Bloodhound Gang.
If you’ve got the crime … we’ve got the time … we’re the Bloodhound Gang!”

Back in 1982 … The Bloodhound Gang was a mini-series that aired during the last 5 minutes of a PBS program called “3-2-1 Contact”.

It was about three clever teenagers who solved crimes, with the help of their knowledge of science.

My sister Manda and I would virtually kill ourselves racing home from grade school to catch the end of the show.

Each episode ended with a cliff-hanger, until the crime was miraculously solved!

Nothing was more frustrating than when a 3-2-1 Contact episode ran too long (usually on Fridays) and the announcer would say “The Bloodhound Gang will not be presented today”!  We were devastated that we’d have to wait an entire weekend to find out how the crime would be solved.

What does this have to do with my current role?
Well … nothing really.

That said … my client is in the investigations space … and they’re looking for a Director, Corporate Investigations to lead their own version of a Bloodhound Gang!

SUMMARY:

The Director, Corporate Investigations will grow the business while leading the Investigations Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop strategic Sales & Marketing plan to grow the investigations business
Supervise Operations for the entire Investigative department and provide support, direction and solutions
Devise training programs to develop the professional knowledge and skills of the investigative group
Manage criminal investigations and implementation of regulations and programs for select, key clients
Maintain open communication with Sales & Operations groups … as well as law enforcement agencies
Remain current on developments in crime prevention, law enforcement and emergency preparedness
Liaison with other departments and companies within the Group of Companies

REQUIREMENTS:

3+ years in Director of Investigations role with some experience in business development/sales
Possess a current Investigations License / Post-secondary degree
Track record of growing a business line and dealing with RFP responses
Ability to excel under pressure, tight deadlines and managing changing / multiple priorities
Project Management including planning, organizing, delegating, evaluating & time management
Excellent communication skills; to write comprehensive & detailed investigative reports & correspondence
Proven experience directing, developing and motivating staff
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style
Experience giving presentations and meeting with corporate level executive

REMUNERATION:

BASE SALARY: $120,000 – $150,000
MBO: up to 20% of Salary
