In the late 1800’s, a trendy, alcoholic drink was made with whiskey and eggs. It was described as a “… sturdy, healthful eggnog type of drink, with eggs and whiskey … served as a tonic, as well as a treat”.
It was called – the ‘milkshake’.
By 1900, the term ‘milkshake’ referred to “wholesome drinks made with chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla syrups.”
100 years ago, in 1922, the milkshake as we know it, was born when a Walgreens employee in Chicago, named Ivar “Pop” Coulson, took an old-fashioned malted milk (milk, chocolate, & malt) and tossed in two scoops of ice cream.
In doing so, he created a drink which instantly became wildly popular across the USA – and around the world!

Growing up in my neighbourhood in “the Hammer”, there came a time, usually around the age of 10 or 11, when you decided you didn’t want to be looked upon as just a ‘kid’ anymore.
And the only way to gain the ‘street cred’ that required was the terrifying rite of passage called, ‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Door’.
Now, ‘Nicky-Nicky 9 Door’ (also referred to as – ‘Ding-Dong-Ditch’) had four fixed rules:
RULE #1: It had to ‘go down’ on a Saturday night – and only after dark. (So, if your parents insisted you had to be home “when the streetlights came on” – you pretty much disqualified yourself!)
RULE #2: You couldn’t rock a shortcut and knock on the screen door – it had to be the ‘real’ door! (Having to open the screen door burned precious seconds … thus, increasing the odds of getting pinched.)
RULE #3: You had to knock super hard – 3 distinct times. (Ringing the doorbell, while knocking would elevate you to legendary status!)
RULE #4: You couldn’t pick the house yourself – that was decided for you! (It was usually a house with a nearly rabid dog … or heaven forbid, the house everyone insisted was haunted.)
I personally accomplished the task 3 days before my 11th birthday. PS: I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to Mrs. Walchuk!
So, what does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role? Absolutely nothing!

On June 2, 1925, New York Yankees star player, Wally Pipp arrived at Yankee Stadium. He immediately went to see the team trainer to ask for two aspirins – he was nursing a dreadful headache!
Team Manager, Miller Huggins happened to be walking by, and said – “Wally, take the day off … we’ll try that new kid, Gehrig at first today – and get you back in there, tomorrow.”
Years later, Wally referred to the incident as “… the two most expensive aspirin in history.” What was Wally talking about?

On September 14, 1993, the soundtrack for the movie, Judgment Night, was released. One of the most popular songs on that album was titled ‘I Love You Mary Jane’. It was a collaboration between post-punk rock band, Sonic Youth and west coast rappers – Cypress Hill.
For those who don’t know – ‘Mary Jane’ is but one, of a long list of slang terms for cannabis. It’s believed the Mexican Spanish term ‘marijuana’ was introduced to the USA by immigrants from Mexico.
Separated in two, the term refers to two traditional Spanish names – ‘Maria’ and ‘Juana’. By extension, the English version becomes – ‘Mary Jane’!
What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role? Well … nothing really.

INTERESTED? There are 3 things Match and Fable needs from you;
Robert Wadlow was born in Alton, Illinois on February 22, 1918, and seemed just like any other baby. However, by the age of one, he was over 3 feet tall, and by his eighth birthday – nearly twice that!
At 13, Robert was the tallest Boy Scout in the world – at a towering 7 feet, 4 inches. In 1936, he joined a traveling circus and drew massive crowds.
2 years later, he became the spokesman for a shoe company and as a perk, received free shoes (size 37AA). (In comparison … Shaquille O’Neal’s shoe size is but a mere 23)
Due to his extreme height, Robert suffered with a lack of feeling in his legs. Refusing to use a wheelchair, he chose to wear special braces to help him walk.
Tragically, at the age of 22, one of the braces caused a blister which Robert didn’t notice (due to the lack of feeling in his legs).
This blister eventually led to an infection and ultimately, to the premature death of the gentle, ‘Alton Giant’.
Robert’s last recorded measurement (18 days prior to his passing) was 8 feet, 11.1 inches!
What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role? Not much really.
That said, Match and Fable’s Janna French is looking for a Truckmate Specialist to make a giant contribution to her client’s business!
In May 1775, George Washington was the leader of the Continental Army. John Hancock (of Massachusetts) was appointed Congress President.
Hancock’s claim to fame is being the first representative to sign the US Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 – pronouncing the United States’ emancipation from British rule.
Of a total 56 signatures on this historic document, Hancock’s is by far the most well-known. Why? Because he prominently signed it, dead center – larger and more gracefully than his counterparts!
To this day, asking for someone’s “John Hancock” is a common phrase used when requesting their signature.
What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role? Well, nothing really.
