MARKY FRESH (OTE: $140,000 – $170,000)

The year was 1984 … and I was in Grade 7.

On my way home from Walt’s Variety Store on Concession Street … I heard a magical sound that would shape my musical taste – forever!

A rapper named LL Cool J had just released his album titled “Radio” and “Rock the Bells” was absolutely rockin’ my world!

Over the next few months, I boxed up my childhood toys and immersed myself in all things Hip-Hop.

My mom bought me a navy K-Way suit and a book I was begging for – “Breakdancing” … where “Mr. Fresh and The Supreme Rockers promised to show me how to do it!”

And I desperately needed to know “how to do it”!

A few months later, after hours and hours of practicing the moves from my book, I auditioned to join a local Breakdance Crew – The Street Rockers! And, I made the cut!

After agonizing over options, I finally chose my “B-Boy name” – Marky Fresh.

I spent every free moment I had honing my specialty … which was “lockin’ ‘n’ poppin’!”

My signature move?
The King Tut!

While my parents scratched their heads … wondering what had happened to their little boy … I relished in my newfound passion and the camaraderie The Street Rockers provided.

What’s this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing really.

That said … just as “Marky Fresh” perfected his signature move to make him invaluable to the Street Rockers … my client is looking for a Head of Sales to bring their invaluable knowledge of the Security industry to their organization.

KNOCK ON WOOD (OTE: $85,000 – $90,000+)

At some point or another, we’ve all “knocked on wood” in the hopes it would bring good luck or prevent anything bad from happening.

The practice is believed to have likely originated from the folklore of ancient Indo-Europeans.

Long before modern religions came along, many of these cultures believed supernatural beings, like spirits or gods … lived inside the trees.

The touching of the tree would invoke the protection or blessing of the spirit within.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing really.

KNOCKER UPPER – $93,000 – $115,000 (USD)

In 18th century Britain, alarm clocks were both unreliable and expensive!

Nevertheless … people had to make sure they woke up on-time to get to work!

So, what did they do?
Well … they did what all their neighbours were doing.

They hired a “knocker-upper” to rouse them from their slumber.
This individual would carry a baton and knock on clients’ doors.

If clients lived on higher floors … they’d use a long bamboo stick, to reach their bedroom windows.

The “knocker-upper” wouldn’t leave until they were certain their client had climbed out of bed.

In return, the knocker-up was paid a few pence per week.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing at all!

THE ROPES – ($45,000 – $47,000)

Before ships began to be powered by steam or fuel … almost every one of them was equipped solely with sails.

Attached to the sails were ropes. The manipulation of these ropes directly affected the shape of the sail … as such, allowing the vessel to maneuver through the water.

New recruits had to learn how to tie special knots and control the ropes to move the sails and capture wind most effectively. This series of lessons was referred to as – “learning the ropes”.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

Nothing really.

That said, our client has asked Zafreen Kassam to find Development Trainees (with as little as zero experience) to learn the ropes of their business … and launch their professional career!

REVEALED ($50,000 – $70,000)

For more than 600 years, a 9-foot-tall, stucco statue of Buddha sat in Bangkok, Thailand.

Known as the “Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakon”, it was so incredibly heavy, it was simply left outside for years – covered by a simple tin roof.

Then, in 1955, it was decided the statue would be relocated.
As workers began the transfer, the statue was inadvertently dropped!

Large pieces of stucco broke away … and stunned onlookers could not believe their eyes.

As the workers chipped away at the remaining stucco … it was revealed the Buddha was made of solid gold!

Worth an estimated $250 million, historians believe the statue was most likely covered in stucco to safeguard it from Burmese invaders, in the 1700’s.

What does that have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

Absolutely nothing!

HUMBLE PIE ($80,000 – $95,000)

Where did the term “eat humble pie” originate?

Well … during the Middle Ages, the Lord of the Manor would usually hold a feast after a big hunt.

Naturally … as the head of the household, the Lord would accept the absolute finest cut of meat for his meal!

Those of significantly “lower standing” could expect a pie (but certainly not the kind of pie they’d hope for).

Their pies were filled with the entrails and innards of the animals.
These ‘parts’ of the animals were called – “umbles.”

As such, receiving “umble pie” was humiliating … as it clearly indicated one’s inferior status.

What does that have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Absolutely nothing!

THE PRICE IS RIGHT ($120,000 – $144,000)

On September 22, 2008, Terry Kniess was called to “Come on Down” and be the next contestant on The Price Is Right.

The first item he bid on was the Big Green Egg Smoker/Grill.
Terry bid $1,175.
The actual retail price? $1,175!

Unbeknownst to anyone, Kneiss wasn’t a typical contestant. He was a passionate student of the game.

For 4 months prior, he recorded episodes of the show and kept track of all the items being offered up for bid.
Terry memorized a ton of them.

Next, Terry spun the Big Wheel, and luckily landed on 90 cents … qualifying him for the Showcase Showdown!

That’s when a man in the crowd, named Ted Slauson, stepped in.
A Super Fan of the show, Slauson had studied The Price Is Right, for over a decade!

The items in Terry’s Showcase package were a pool table, a karaoke machine and a 17-foot camper.
Ted whispered to Terry’s wife, who relayed the information to her husband, on stage.

Terry bid $23,743.
The actual retail price? $23,743!

And, because he had ‘guessed’ within $250 of the price, he ended up winning both Showcases!

Nothing really!

GONE FISHIN’ ($133,000 – $140,000 USD)

Once upon a time, a man was sitting by a lake with a fishing pole in one hand and a can of beer, in the other.

His friend approached him and said, “You know, if you bought another fishing rod, you’d catch more fish.”
The man asked, “What then?”

His friend continued … “Once you sell enough fish, you can buy a small boat and have 10 lines in the water.”
The man asked, “What then?”

“Well, with all the fish you’d catch, you could buy more boats and catch even more fish!”
The man again asked, “What then?”

“After a few years of selling all those fish, you could sell the entire business for a small fortune.”
The man asked, “What then?”

“Well, then you could sit around all day, fishing and drinking beer!”
The man turned to his friend, and said … “That’s exactly what I’m doing right now.”

CAPTAIN CRUNCH ($180,000 – $190,000+)

As a kid, watching Saturday morning cartoons … I’d regularly settle into a bowl of Corn Flakes and watch commercials for Count Chocula and Frosted Flakes dance across the screen.

My mother NEVER bought these cereals – never even considered it.
And, you can be certain … her decision had nothing to do with dietary concerns over sugar content.

Her decision was 100% price driven!

So, imagine my delight, one Saturday morning … when I opened the cabinet and there … before my very eyes, stood a box of Cap’n Crunch!

I immediately determined there was no way Cap’n Crunch was making its way into ‘regular rotation’.
So, I instantly learned the concept of rationing.

Cap’n Crunch became a 10-year-old boy’s delicacy – enjoyed only on Saturdays – never during the week!

I’d fill a bowl with Corn Flakes and then strategically place 5 Cap’n Crunch pieces on top! (I think I managed to stretch that box to nearly 6 months!)
