YOU GIVE ME FEVER (OTE: $96,000 – $100,400+)

In 1847, Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis noticed that ladies giving birth in a maternity clinic in Vienna … were dying at an alarming rate!

The deaths were attributed an ato ilment dubbed, “childbed fever” … but Semmelweis wasn’t buying it.

He began investigating and discovered that women treated in the doctors’ ward were dying 5x more often than those in the midwives’ clinic!

He quickly determined that doctors were conducting autopsies, as well as delivering babies. And to make matters far worse … these doctors were often moving directly from one procedure to the next – spreading infection from dead bodies to maternity ward patients!

To halt transmission, Semmelweis introduced simple disinfection procedures. Maternity wards were to be kept clean … and doctors were required to wash their hands. As a result, the rate of “childbed fever” plummeted.

Despite its effectiveness … his solution was ridiculed by many doctors, who considered it insulting to be required to wash their hands!

The incessant criticism eventually led Dr. Semmelweis to suffer a nervous breakdown.
He ended up in a mental asylum … and died, in 1865.

Ironically, his cause of death was ruled; sepsis … the very same thing that had killed all those women in the maternity ward!

GRAVE ROBBERS – (OTE: $150,000 – $180,000)

In 1705, in Lurgan, Ireland… a woman named Margorie McCall took ill … and died.
Uncertain of what had led to her demise (and how contagious it was) … she was swiftly buried!

Word quickly spread that, due to swelling … her husband was unable to remove a ring from his wife’s hand.

The next evening, two unscrupulous grave-robbers (shovels in hand) … entered the gates of Shankill Cemetery. They soon located Margorie’s fresh grave … and got to work.

Digging away … they eventually opened the casket … and feverishly tried to pry the ring from Margorie’s finger. It soon became clear, the only way to get that ring … was to cut her finger off!

As they drew first-blood, Margorie awoke from her coma, sat up … letting out a blood-curdling scream!

The terrified duo fled … as a bewildered Margorie climbed out of the hole … and headed home.

When her husband, John heard a knock at the door … he turned to his children and said, “If your mother was still alive … I’d swear that was her knock.”

When he opened the door … he found his wife, dressed in her burial clothes … blood dripping from her finger.

John suffered a heart attack, and dropped dead on the spot.
He was buried in the exact plot Margorie had just vacated!

THE ‘SECRET RECIPE’ ROLE ($75,000+)

And, he actually kept the recipe for the spice mixture, in his car!

Even to this day, only a handful of people know the full details of the Colonel’s multi-million-dollar formula … and it’s protected by some elaborate security precautions.

THE ‘DIE HARD’ ROLE (OTE: $125,000 – $140,000+)

In January 1933, five friends came up with a devious plan. With the help of a crooked insurance agent, they purchased a life insurance policy on Michael Malloy – a homeless, alcoholic.

Tony Marino, a tavern owner … offered Malloy an unlimited tab, banking on the idea Malloy would summarily drink himself to death … and the 5 friends (later dubbed The Murder Trust), would cash-in on the policy.

Malloy seized the opportunity to drink, from sunrise to sunset … and returned every day, to do it again.

Growing increasingly impatient … Marino swapped the liquor with antifreeze, then turpentine, then horse liniment and finally … rat poison. Malloy just kept drinking – unfazed!

In desperation … the men tried feeding Malloy a plate of raw oysters, soaked in wood alcohol … and a sandwich of spoiled sardines, mixed with poison & steel shavings. Malloy asked for a second helping!

They tried freezing him to death … and even ran him over with a car … yet, Malloy survived.

On February 23, 1933, after a full day of drinking … Malloy passed out. The five men carried him to a room, put a hose in his mouth (connected to a gas jet) … and Malloy died, within the hour.

Dr. Frank Manzella pronounced Malloy’s death a result of ‘lobar pneumonia’ and his body was swiftly buried. Police quickly heard rumors and ordered Malloy’s body be exhumed and examined.

Long story short … the men were aptly convicted of murder, and the “good doctor” was held as an accessory after the fact. One of the men went to prison while the remaining four booked their date with the electric chair!

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Absolutely nothing!

THE ‘LIGHTNING STRIKES’ ROLE (OTE: $100,000 – $125,000+)

The odds of the average person being struck by lightning in their lifetime are about 0.000083%.

That works out to roughly 1 in 12,000. These happen to be the same odds as finding a pearl in an oyster.

If you’ve never heard of Roy Cleveland Sullivan … you might be in for quite a shock (pardon the pun).
Mr. Sullivan was a US Park Ranger at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

Between the years of 1942 and 1977, he had the unfortunate luck of being struck by lightning – an unprecedented, 7 separate times!

While he survived every lightning strike … he sadly met his demise by virtue of a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.

THE ‘NUMEROPHOBIA’ ROLE (OTE: $60,000 – $80,000)

NUMEROPHOBIA (1)

Believe it or not … there’s a term for people with an irrational fear of numbers!
It’s called ‘numerophobia’.

Now, we’re all pretty familiar with the superstitions surrounding numbers.

The #13 is widely considered to be unlucky. So much so, that many architects skip the 13th floor when designing their buildings.

The #666 is believed to be the sign of the devil!

And … many people prescribe to the belief; bad things happen in 3’s.
For example, lighting three cigarettes with a single match … will lead to death!

But, numerophobia is a whole new level!
Individuals stricken with this affliction fear all kinds of numbers – especially complex math equations!

So … what does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing really.

That said … if you’re a numerophobe … this role definitely wouldn’t be up your alley.

THE ‘LUCKY DOG’ ROLE (OTE: $115,000+)

LUCKY DOG

In August 1923, the Brazier family of Silverton, Oregon took a road trip to visit relatives in Wolcott, Indiana.

While there … their dog, Bobbie was attacked by three dogs and vanished!

The Braziers searched desperately … but alas, were unable to find Bobbie – anywhere!
Devastated and defeated … they returned home to Oregon.

6 months later, and in terrible shape … Bobbie hobbled up to the door of the Brazier family home!

In the 6 months he’d been missing … Bobbie had crisscrossed more than 4,000 kilometers (23 kilometers per day) … which entailed swimming across rivers, crossing deserts and climbing mountains – in the dead of winter!

THE ‘PAY DIRT’ ROLE (OTE: $180,000 – $185,000)

PAY DIRT

The expression “pay dirt” came into existence in the mid-1850’s.
At the time … people from all over America were flocking westward … to join the California Gold Rush!

In the mining world … you’re considered to have ‘hit pay dirt’ once you’ve mined an area … deep enough into the earth, to find the profitable layer of precious metal. In essence … these folks were ‘striking’ it rich – with their shovel!
