THE ‘MONEY BOX’ ROLE ($45,000)

Victor Lustig was born January 4, 1890 in Hostinné, Austria-Hungary (present day Czech Republic). Lustig was an extremely skilled con-man and is infamous for being “the man who sold the Eiffel Tower – twice”!

He’s also known for originating the “Rumanian Box” scam – aka the Money Box.

Lustig would approach an individual with a ‘machine’ he claimed could duplicate any currency placed inside it. The ‘machine’ was a specially designed mahogany box with two small slots and a number of levers and mechanisms that had to be carefully maneuvered to produce the duplicate currency.

To convince the person the Money Box truly worked, Lustig asked them for a $100 bill.
He would insert the bill into his device, and explain that the machine would take 6 hours to create the copy.

When the 6 hours had passed … Lustig would reach into the machine and magically produce a perfect ‘counterfeit’ bill (which was in fact, a real $100 bill he had pre-loaded)!

Lustig would then accompany the individual to a bank to authenticate the note.
Once the person was whipped into a frenzy (thinking they’d struck it rich) … Lustig would sell them the box for thousands and thousands of dollars.

Before delivering the machine … Lustig would pack the Money Box with 4 real $100 bills … which would provide him with 24 hours to get out of town … before the individual realized they’d been conned.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

THE ‘ALCATRAZ’ ROLE (OTE: $110,000 – $125,000 USD)

At 9:40am on August 11, 1934 … America’s infamous Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary opened its doors to 137 prisoners.

The prison had been designed to hold “the worst of the worst” – criminals who regularly caused problems at other federal prisons and were considered to have no hope of rehabilitating.

In nearly 30 years of operation … 36 inmates made a total of 14 escape attempts.
Of those convicts … 23 were apprehended, 6 were shot dead … and 2 drowned.
The remaining 5 went missing … presumed to have drowned.

In 1962, Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin, attempted the most renowned breakout from the facility.

With sharpened spoons … the trio chipped away at rotting concrete walls. They fashioned decoy heads (complete with locks of hair from the prison barbershop) … and strategically placed them in their beds, to fool the guards.

Their possessions were eventually found floating in the San Francisco Bay … but their bodies were never actually recovered! Some may speculate they may have been successful in their escape … but it’s extremely doubtful.

Clearly … the term refers to not banking on anything … before it’s realized.

As you’d imagine … it’s a very old phrase and is believed to have existed in many forms, across various cultures.

One of the most recognized occurrences is Aesop’s Fable, titled … The Milkmaid and Her Pail … which originated somewhere between 600 and 550 BC.

What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s role?
Well, not much really.

That said … it’s a perfect segue to what our client has asked us to find for them.

Our client is looking for an Assistant Manager for their Accounts Receivable Department.

As we all know … just because a company billed it, doesn’t mean they’ll always receive payment – on time … or ever! This is where the right candidate will come in … to offer their skills and expertise.

POSITION:                ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE (ASSISTANT MANAGER)
REPORTS TO:           CREDIT AND COLLECTIONS MANAGER
INDUSTRY:                PLUMBING AND HYDRONICS
LOCATION:               VAUGHAN / WOODBRIDGE

SUMMARY:

Our client is the fastest growing plumbing and hydronics wholesaler in the GTA.

They’re looking for an Assistant A/R Manager to work closely with the Credit Manager in terms of the department’s daily functions. Duties include supervising staff, collections, order releasing, reconciliation of accounts and reporting on accounts receivable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist A/R manager to coach the team and resolve internal / external client issues
  • Set up credit applications in system and prepare onboarding letters for clients
  • Follow up with clientele to ensure payment is received … according to credit terms
  • Investigate client credit status with Credit Bureau to determine likelihood of payment
  • Liaison between A/P and clients for supplier returns and direct pick-ups
  • Assist with G/L reconciliations


REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 + years of previous experience in a similar role is required
  • Experience in both … credit reporting and account reconciliations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (primarily Excel)
  • Excellent customer service, communication & organizational skills
  • Ability to react quickly and provide solutions to challenges


REMUNERATION:

SALARY: $70,000 – $75,000
OTHER: benefits + vacation + on-site gym (with basketball court)
